Call up your best Diana Ross: Ain’t no mountain high enough, Ain’t no valley low enough, Ain’t no river wide enough, To keep me from you (O Cebreiro)…belt it out now…Ain’t no mountain high enough, Nothing can keep me, Keep me from you (O Cebreiro)! This was my theme song today! I’m sure I actually sang it out loud at some point!
Happy Feast Day of St. James! You can be sure that the city of Santiago de Compostela is having a huge party today! My dear, dear friend Sarah arrived there yesterday.
This is Day three of our novena to St. James. Our readings remind us that Jesus took Peter, James, and John to a secluded mountain where they witnessed the Transfiguration of Jesus. They then heard God’s voice from heaven say, This is my Son in Whom I am pleased. Listen to Him.
The prayers remind us that we should never be ashamed to be Christians. We should always, like St. James, be ready to proclaim the Faith without fear or surrender.
Well, the 19.8 mile walk today was, indeed, breathtaking, in more ways than one! Yes, it was a very, very steep, rocky, long climb. We expected that. But Day One was harder. We managed, going very slowly in spots. But at one point near the top…
the clouds started rolling over the mountain! We were IN THE CLOUDS! It was unreal!
Here I am enveloped in the clouds – quite excited that we made it!
And Marsha and Mary as they arrive victoriously at the top through the clouds!
The village of O Cebreiro was charming, with a very Celtic feel. We are now in the province of Galicia, with its own unique traditions and dialect.
A lovely gentleman at a souvenir shop, when he realized I was American gave me this darling pin! I was so touched. I will wear it proudly!
Another highlight: the Camino was overrun by this herd of cows. This little lady was coming right at me, and was not going to step aside for anyone!
It was a long day. We were very literally transported to our absolutely ideal accommodations. Thank you, St. Joseph, St. James, and everyone who prayed for us!
