As long as I have my full shadow in front of me and the sunflowers are facing me, I know I am going in the right direction.
The stats:At this moment we have walked 407 km and 258 miles. Today we walked 20.2 miles! And at our arrival in Terradillos de los Templarios, we officially are past the 1/2 way point to Santiago! We “celebrated” with chocolate mousse for dessert at lunch time. Bravo Muchachas!
We were planning, after an already long day, to extend our walk because of the nice weather. We pushed ahead, but found that at our next village they had had a water main break. Basically the entire village was without water. We had no choice but to push even further ahead to the next village.
Before we left the waterless pueblo, we discovered these curious little “hobbit houses.” They are actually former wine cellars built into the hillside.
We prayed to Saint Joseph and Saint Nicholas and ended up in an albergue in San Nicolas Del Real Camino. So, we’re in dormitory style lodgings for the night, we’ve takin our places in our bunks, and are settling in. The owner is super friendly and is taking care of our laundry for us – what luxury!
We had heard rumors of this fairy tale and wondered if it was actually true: that sometimes after the Camino your feet will spread and actually grow wider. I’ve been watching my already wide feet, and I’m afraid I will have Hobbit Feet by the time this is over.
At home we are so spoiled – aka incredibly blessed – to have so many opportunities to attend Holy Mass. Here there will be one Sunday Mass at 1100 in this village. No Saturday night vigil Mass. We are in a pinch! Either we wait, attend Mass, and start walking at noon or start off ultra early and hope to hit the next big town in time to make Mass. We will probably attempt the latter. We’ve got to keep moving! No moss is growing under these “hobbit feet!”
On that note, I can’t resist, and this is for our favorite Podiatrist, Dr. Nikki – we are blister free!
