16 miles today!! Indeed we charged through the happenin’ town of Pamplona and settled in to a sleepy little town nearby. We practically have the “albergue” to ourselves.
It’s, again, an informal hostel – can be rough around the edges – just for pilgrims like us! Everyone comes in, showers, puts on tomorrow’s clean clothes, washes today’s clothes and gets them drying before tomorrow’s departure. Everyone sleeps in tomorrows clothes. Quick prep for the day! We call this the “clean shirt/dirty shirt” system.
It’s normally a dormitory style set up – and today we have 10 beds for the three of us! Dream come true! About $11 per person.
Today we stumbled upon an Appaloosa horse farm with frolicking foals, a lovely waterfall, 3 weddings, a political protest, a little bit of sunshine, a couple walking the Camino with a burro, an ashtray in the shape of pants, and a 12th century church, where we attended Holy Mass. What more could we want?
Tomorrow looks like a hard day – another 15 miles with steep ascents and a brutal descent.
There is a very famous monument at the peak dedicated to pilgrims. Promises to be a very emotional day for me to be at this very special spot on the Camino. St. James, pray for us!
