Day Eleven – Belorado to St Juan de Ortega

15 miles today! We got a super late start, which is A-OK! Mass was at 930 in a glorious convent for Poor Clares. The Sisters’ voices were heavenly, the priest was so reverent and holy, and his homily on Matthew 11 hit home! In a nutshell: We are all tired. Physically tired. Emotionally tired. Psychologically tired. We need to rest in the Lord. Like a child rests in his mother’s arms, where he feels completely safe and abandons all cares, we need that same sweet rest in the presence of Jesus, Who tells us, “My yoke is easy and burden is light.”

This is the map of today’s walk:

It was a doozie! But actually we handled it quite well! We had several small Pueblos at the beginning. Then a long stretch with nothing. At one point we could see this:

The path dipped and disappeared and then we spied the steep climb  further ahead. It then went on to the left and climbed even further! Check out Mary! You can see the steep descent behind her! YES! We made that descent and then the climb! We amaze even ourselves!

We had pine forests on either side of the path today, which provided some shade, but ithe sun was still toasty.

We found ourselves in s small community dedicated to St Juan de Ortega. Great miracles have come about by his intercession – you better believe we brought our biggest and best intentions and begged his intercession.

Tomorrow we’re off to the big city of Burgos, where I will actually have a chance for a short visit with a very distant cousin!

We thank you for your continued prayers. They are being felt and answered!
