Day Six – Villamayor de Monjardin to Torres del Rio

Well, we beat the heat! 4:15 wake up call had us out the door at 5:00. We had our first experience hiking in the dark.

We learned a few lessons: Hiking the Camino by headlamp requires vigilance to find the arrows and markers that guide us, the glowing, brilliant eyes of the little animals we pass are super creepy, the cool refreshing air and clear starry sky is glorious, getting a 2 hour head start allows the pilgrim time to enjoy a siesta, and finally, sunrise in Spain is spectacular.

Shadows were long as we passed through wheat fields, vineyards and olive groves.

In Los Arcos we had a lovely breakfast.

Clothes are on the line, we’re all in clean shirts and resting our weary feet.

It was a shorter day, but we saw the benefit of escaping the scorching heat.
