Day Five – Maneru to Villamayor de Monjardin

16.8 miles today and the heat has kicked in! We happened upon an extraordinary 11th century church today that was so amazing!

Some might be wondering what we can possibly talk about for hours and hours and hours on end. The truth is that we really are quiet usually.  We are not walking side-by-side most of the time. We have now established a very fine pattern and it works for us.

Our mornings are like this: “Ignition system start. We have lift off.” Marsha takes off like a rocket. Her energy is amazing in the morning. Mary inherited her mother’s NASA-like genes, but she likes to be in the middle or sometimes behind. I’m almost always in the back. We aren’t always even within sight of each other.

Other times we can have some pretty serious philosophical discussions, and yesterday we started out in song!

There is something interesting that I’ve noticed:? Sometimes we find pilgrims walking towards us. Our first inclination is: We’re going the wrong way! Not necessarily: They’re going the wrong way! I don’t know why I have this instant reaction to question myself. Yes, we are still figuring this out, but truly we’re doing quite well. Actually, we have run into pilgrims who are walking the Camino in reverse after making it to Santiago. One man we met was on his 4th trek back and forth again!

Our confidence is strong. We have a great attitude in spite of some aching feet. Please continue to pray for us!
