Day One – St. Jean to Roncesvalles

This first day is the hardest on the Camino. Nearly 11 hours, mostly uphill.

Map of today’s hike!

We crossed the mountains and found flocks of sheep, goats, horses, cows, pilgrims from all over the world, .and strength we never knew we had!

We experienced ferocious biting cold winds, a thunder and lightening storm (ground white with hail!) cool breezes — landscapes that defy description.

Parts of the walk were so steep we felt like…oh… I found this guy on the Camino. This became the symbol for my day!

God is indeed almighty – I told s fellow pilgrim that I need two hearts for all the joy I feel. And I needed six pairs of eyes to take in all His beautiful creation.
